Job Description

Overview Director, Government Relations at Maxar Space Systems. Located in the Washington DC area. This strategic leadership role focuses on fostering relationships to educate legislative and executive branch decision-makers and influencers on Maxar products, services, and technologies. Responsibilities Support legislative and executive branch outreach strategy and activities Understand U.S. Government customer processes, problems, and interests with a specific focus on defense and civil space authorities Develop industry leadership opportunities and partnerships to advance the Company’s goals Collaborate with other corporate business functions Monitor, analyze, respond to, and influence federal (and occasionally state and local) policy and regulatory trends affecting the aerospace industry Analyze and track legislation and congressional hearings Prepare and edit correspondence, white papers, presentations, and other communications Represent the company among industry groups and associations; prepare and implement strategies to maximize the value of such groups Attend and prepare for conferences, meetings, special events, etc. (some travel may be required) Make oral and written presentations on behalf of the company and department Coordinate with and/or direct interns and consultants Administrative role for Maxar Space Systems Political Action Committee including employee outreach, coordination, RSVP, budget, compliance, etc. Minimum Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen Bachelor’s degree in political science, public relations, communications or related field 7 years of experience with a federal agency and/or Capitol Hill experience, preferably with concentration on National Security Space Experience writing language for inclusion into legislative bills Experience with the appropriations and budget process and legislative calendar First-hand knowledge of legislative and executive branch processes, U.S. Government budget cycle, and U.S. Government agency behaviors and cultures; ability to navigate corporate issues through budget and policy decision-making processes Knowledge of and experience in the aerospace sector Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet position demands Some travel required Preferred Requirements TS/SCI clearance or ability to obtain in the future High proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook Polished interpersonal skills when dealing with corporate executives and senior government officials; knowledge of etiquette and protocol; ability to represent corporate issues effectively Self-starter with strong time management and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment Team player able to build relationships across remote office locations Experience in thriving in a remote or small office environment Ability to quickly grasp and convey complex technical concepts Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to produce policy papers, letters, newsletters and presentations, and speak confidently before diverse audiences Compensation and Benefits We disclose salary ranges on all U.S. job postings in support of pay transparency. Base pay for this position in the Washington, DC metropolitan area is $173,000.00 – $289,000.00 annually. Other states may have different ranges based on geographic cost of labor.
